HOME STAGING FAQ

What is the ultimate goal of Staging?
To enhance the appearance of homes for quick and profitable sales.

Is Staging expensive?
No! The initial consultation is free. The actual Staging typically cost $350-$1500, which may result in a $5,000 $20,000 gain when the property sells.  Staging actually makes you money!

Do you charge for estimates?
No. Our initial visit is free.

How soon can you stage my house?
Our goal is to Stage every house within a week of your call.

How long will it take for you to Stage my house?
It varies by what needs to be done. An average house will take anywhere from 3-6 hours.

Why should I use an Certified Stager?
An ASP has completed the ASP course and has learned the exclusive Staging techniques and a more in-depth, hands on training to enhance their skills.  Certified Stager's receive ongoing training and keep up on the current trends for the Staging market.

Why is Staging important to sellers?
In today's market buyers are looking for a house that is in "move-in" condition. Buyers view Staged homes as homes that have been given that extra TLC.

Can I Stage my house myself?
Yes. Staging does take a lot of skill, preparation, dedication and time. We offer the Evaluation and the Consultation Services for the do-it-yourself homeowner.

I've live in my home for years and never really "decorated" it. Why should I have it staged now?
More often than not, buying a home is an emotional decision. By creating a warm, flowing environment that potential buyers can envision living in, you've dramatically increased the likelihood of a successful sale. The cost of staging is nominal and you'll be thrilled with the results. Remember, you don't always have to paint and tackle a bunch of home improvements to make your house more attractive. Often times we are able to create the right look by simply editing the furnishings and/or bringing in some plants and accessories.

When should I have my home Staged?
Ideally the house will be properly prepared before the first person looks at it, including the neighbor who knows someone who may like it. Allow yourself some time to have the Staging done and keep your REALTOR informed. Your Stager will let you know the scope of the work required and how long it may take. If your house is already on the market, then it is still the right time to Stage. All the proven reasons to Stage still hold true. Staging gives an excellent boost to a stale listing, and provides the wow factor for an open house.

Why should I Stage my house in a "hot" market?
Statistics show that in "hot" markets Staged homes sell for higher prices.  In a slow market, they sell faster than similar homes that have not been Staged.

We’ve already moved into a new house, and the house we’re selling is vacant. I’ve heard vacant homes don’t show well; is that true?
Yes, rooms that are vacant often look smaller than rooms that are furnished! It’s difficult for most people to envision their furniture in a vacant space, or to visualize possible uses for the room. A Certified Stager can help you make even a vacant house look better.

Some Realtors advertise that they'll personally stage my house. Why should I use a Certified Stager?
Consider the rising Hollywood starlet who gets signed by a new agent. The first thing the agent does is bring in a stylist and image consultant to enhance her look and increase her marketability. The agent understands his specialty is identifying opportunities and negotiating the best deal for his client. He leaves the makeover to specialists in that field. Not only is this a more efficient use of his time, it also garners the best result for his client. This analogy can be applied to the home sales process. When you list with an agent you want them to concentrate on marketing, selling, and negotiating. This will result in the most exposure and best deal for your home. Certainly they can give you recommendations on what you should do to the house prior to listing, but for an in-depth evaluation or to have all the work completed by professionals specializing in making over your home, call StageCrafters.

Do I need to clean my house?
Yes!  A clean house invites potential buyers to STAY!

Should I wash the windows?
Yes!  Show off your views with windows they can see through!

Is the Stager going to criticize my home, my decorating, my housekeeping?
The way you live in your home and the way we sell your house are two different things. A professional Stager is there to help you present your house as best you can to the market. This has nothing to do with how you live in your home when it is not for sale. Judgement of how you live is not part of this process, only judgement of how the house will show. The stager looks through the eyes of a buyer, and with an unbiased view directs you to make the necessary changes in order to achieve your top dollar quickly. Once your house is sold, you can return to your style of living knowing that you did all you could to sell smart.

Should every home on the market be Staged?
Yes.  Every home can benefit from some kind of Staging regardless of size or location.

What is the difference between a Stager and an Interior Decorator?
A Stager enhances the appearance of homes by making them attractive to the greatest amount of people.  An Interior Decorator enhances the appearance of a home for individual tastes.
